Background

Nutrition continues to steadily gain recognition within the scientific and medical fields, as well as in the media, regarding its importance, not only in achieving and maintaining optimal health and fitness, but in preventing many conditions and diseases of the lifestyle which plague our society.

Physical activity, together with a healthy eating plan is vitally important in order to survive in today’s fast paced society.

Panorama Dietitians consists of two Registered Dietitians with a combined total of more than 30 years experience.

Our Dietitians

Dianne Ivison

Qualification:

I completed my B.Sc Dietetics degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 1999.

Experience:

My journey at Panorama Medi Clinic started in 2002, and I have been seeing patients in hospital and in our practice ever since. I have also been fortunate to help write numerous nutrition related articles for magazines and guest lecture at tertiary facilities. . I have been an ADSA member since my student days and was chairperson of the Association for Dietetics (ADSA) Western Cape (2009-2011).

Special areas of interest:

My special interests include working with children who are over or under weight, fussy eaters and those struggling with gastro-intestinal problems such as constipation. I am passionate about helping patients struggling with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (spastic colon). I am also responsible for our kidney dialysis patients and working out their special needs diet.

About:

My hobbies include cooking, teaching Sunday School and walking the family dog. I am passionate about people and encouraging a healthier lifestyle without the focus being on weight and dieting.

Favourite food:

Raw nuts, artichokes and anything Mediterranean.

And guest lecture at tertiary facilities.

Berna Harmse:

Qualifications

BSc Dietetics degree (University of Potchefstroom), 2004
Masters in Nutrition degree (MSc), 2007

Experience:

I have been in private practice at Panorama Medi-Clinic, Cape Town since 2006. I see hospital patients and consult private practice patients in our rooms.
I also do a lot of media work like contributing to various radio interviews and articles in magazines (Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, You/Huisgenoot, Rooi Rose) and media24.

Special areas of interest:

Oncology: both cancer prevention and nutrition during active treatment, nutrition after surgery (heart, gastro-intestinal), diseases of lifestyle (diabetes, heart disease). Also in hospital, nutrition support in critical illness, as well as rehabilitation and palliative care

Council member and treasurer of SASPEN (the South African Society for Parenteral and Enteral nutrition) 2009 – 2013
Member: editorial board of the South African Journal of Clinical Nutrition (SAJCN) 2011 – 2013
ADSA Executive committee CPD Portfolio representative in 2009-2011.
I enjoy presenting for professionals on a scientific level as an invited speaker and am a published author.

About – something personal:

I enjoy reading, crafts and I adore my Scottish terrier, named Duncan.
